Marie Sleboda: Behavioral Consulltant

MARIE SLEBODA
MARIE SLEBODA

Interview with Marie Sleboda

As I spoke with Marie Sleboda, what stood out immediately was her calm, clear way of describing work that is both technical and deeply human. She brings years of training, international experience, and her own life as a parent into every decision she makes. Nothing in her practice is formula based. Everything is built around understanding children as individuals and supporting families with respect and honesty. Her voice carries the perspective of someone who has learned from study, field experience, and real life.

In the conversation that follows, Marie shares how her background, experience, and values guide the way she supports families through meaningful change.

What first led you toward the field of developmental psychology and behavioural support?
I grew up in France and was always interested in how children learn and communicate. When I began my studies at the University of Strasbourg, I focused on developmental psychology and childhood disabilities. That work opened my eyes to how much the right support can change the direction of a child’s life. It made me want to understand not only the science, but also the real daily challenges families face.

You worked in several countries early in your career. How did that experience shape the way you practice today?
Working in France, Switzerland, and Morocco taught me that there is no single way to support a child. Every environment, culture, and family brings something different. I learned to listen first. I also learned that effective programs are not rigid. They need to reflect the child’s strengths, the family’s routines, and the resources available. Those early years still guide my work today.

How would you describe your approach at Together Behaviour Consulting?
My approach is family centered and neuro affirming. I believe children thrive when support feels meaningful, respectful, and connected to their actual life. I partner closely with parents because they are the experts on their child. Together we build programs that focus on functional skills that improve long term well being. I want families to feel that the process makes sense and that progress feels achievable.

You are also certified in the Early Start Denver Model. Can you tell us a little bit more about this methodology?
The Early Start Denver Model is a naturalistic and play based approach. It helps very young children learn through interaction, engagement, and shared attention. It looks simple from the outside, but it is supported by clear developmental goals. It allows me to help toddlers build communication and social skills in a way that feels comfortable and fun for them.

What motivates your work as a Behaviour Analyst today?
I like seeing families gain confidence. When parents feel supported and understand why we are working on certain goals, the whole process becomes more meaningful. I also enjoy staying connected to the professional community. Presenting at conferences, writing about treatment fidelity, and supervising BCBA candidates keeps me learning and improving.

How has parenting shaped your perspective as a consultant?
Parenting a neurodivergent child gave me insight that no academic program could offer. I understand the emotional side, the uncertainty, and the constant learning. It helps me connect with families in a more grounded way. My role is not to impose expertise. My role is to support, collaborate, and help create change that lasts.

What do you hope families experience when they work with you?
I hope they feel understood and respected. My goal is to offer guidance that fits their life and supports their child in a practical and compassionate way. When a family feels hopeful and supported, that is meaningful progress.
